Passing the time

Friday, May 28th, 2004

Is there anything worse than a Friday before a long weekend? Especially when that weekend includes your birthday, a Madonna concert, a Prince concert, and Las Vegas’s only real circuit party? I’m literally counting the minutes pass until I can call it a night and head out on the town.

Tomorrow, I begin my birthday plan of much drinking. Hopefully, I’ll be able to meet a really hot guy at Viva Las Vegas and have some crazy birthday sex. Not likely, but a boy can always hope.

The best part is that I’ll only have to work on Tuesday of next week. Wednesday, a bunch of us from the office are taking a group vacation.

Announcer guy: So Jere, you just celebrated your 27th birthday with a great deal of booze and feeling up hot guys in a packed dance floor, what are you going to do now?

Jere:I’m going to Disney World!

Yeah, we’re heading to Orlando for Gay Day! I’m so excited about this. I’ve only been to Disneyland once, and I’ve never been to Orlando. I promise to bring back pictures and post them.

I saw George Michael on the Oprah show the other day. I’ve never been a big fan in the past, but his interview was so honest and personal, that I like him now. I have to admit, personal politics factor into every area of my life. I didn’t much care for GM because I was disappointed that he’d hidden in the closet for so long and then came out in the most negative way I can imagine. But hearing his story about losing his lover to AIDS, having his mother die of cancer, etc., I guess I can understand why he had so much animosity toward the media prying into this part of his life.

Okay, so we just spent 15 minutes throwing out nominations for the top ten queer icons in television. We were all laughing as people threw out ideas like “the entire cast of Bewitched” or “anything syndicated on Lifetime.” Of course, I insisted on a shout-out for Willow in Buffy. It’s times like this I love my job. Where else do you gather the staff around a table and brainstorm things like the best gay sex tips for beginners, which country sounds the gayest when they speak (Britain, it was pretty unanimous), or who’s the hottest straight guy to ever play gay in the movies.

The downside to today is that I’m trying to arrange some celebrity profiles. I don’t know why publicists find it so damn hard to schedule a 10 minute phone interview. It’s frustrating. I’m trying to help them expose their clients, you’d think they would at least call back and be polite!
