Oh the humanity of it all

Today has been a bit overwhelming. I move in exactly one month!

Spent most of today trying to get bids on our yellow page project. It’s amazing how difficult it is for printing companies to get the information right. Here’s a hint, when I call and list for you exactly the type and weight of paper I want, an exact number of pages, the type of binding, clarify that it will be 4-color throughout… really, our list of needs is long and specific and I expect you to come back with a bid that accurately reflects my request.

It’s amazing how very, very wrong some of them came back. Newsprint instead of hi-brite paper, forgetting the glossy inserts, incorrect page counts, etc. *sigh* I get to do it all again tomorrow, trying to get accurate bids.

So, Mike Rogers of Blog Active is reporting that hyper-conservative Congressman Edward Schrock (R-VA) has been cruising men on a phone dating service. He hasn’t released any proof yet, but his previous “outing”s of public figures have been accurate. I could start a story reporting on the rumor, but until Rogers gives us some kind of proof, it’s just rumor.

The McGreevey story is getting more and more soap opera every day. Most people don’t spend as much time as I do keeping up on stories specifically interesting to the gay community, but this one will probably continue to fascinate for a while longer. Apparently, a man claimed to be another lover of Golan Cipel, but was later discredited for telling police he was a CIA agent. Meanwhile, the “unnamed sources” of the world have continued to make headlines with talk of blackmail, extortion, lawsuits, sexual harrassment, rumor and scandal.

My favorite news item of last week, though, was the news that the Bush twins (that phrase always makes me think of bad lesbian porn) may be attending a gay wedding in Massachusetts. The couple in question includes the man who waxes their eyebrows. Um, yeah. Wonder how many heart attacks this story gave Karl Rove.

We take the magazine to print on Wednesday and it will be the last time I’m officially listed as Editor. Next month, I’ll probably be listed as “outgoing editor” or something like that, but Steve will get the official title beginning September 1. I’m just hanging around in a consulting status/staff writer status until my last day of work (September 23).

They keep tlaking about throwing me a “going away party” but nothing’s been planned yet. All of my friends are asking me about this, and I have nothing to tell them. If my co-workers don’t set something up, I’ll have to make my own plans. I hate throwing parties for myself, though.
