Job Interview.
Thursday, August 26th, 2004So I got a call today about setting up an employment interview with the Sundance Institute! I don’t know exactly which position they’re interested in talking to me about (there are several positions in the publications branch and the press office), but I’m really excited. It’s all seasonal work, but I’d love to have that on my resume.
Plus, how cool would it be to be on the staff of the Sundance Film Festival?
Anyway, the first interview is by phone on Monday. They asked me to send my complete resume (the online application only allows 2,500 characters) by email – which is much more impressive than the short version. I have a good feeling about this. I typically do better in interviews than I look on paper, although I’ve never had a phone interview for a job before.
If it doesn’t work out, my parents have pointed me toward a few good jobs in the government that would mean security, benefits and long-term prospects. One of them requires a security check and I’m nervous about that. Not that I have anything really questionable in my past, but it seems an awfully big invasion of my privacy. Do you think they would look at LJ accounts and stuff like that? I’m pretty sure it would mean an end to my posting during the work day, but any new job is going to cut down on that. The other problem is that I could pretty much give up the idea of freelance journalism. My dad works for Social Security and he’s told me it would be frowned upon in almost any government job.
The office is going to really quiet over the next 2 weeks. Chris is visiting home (England) and Steve is going to visit Montreal and then Japan on promotional tours (why did these offers only start showing up after I put in my notice?). It’s going to be weird having these two, who I interact with more than any of my co-workers, gone for a while.
Tonight we’re having a party in the House of Blues Foundation Room at the Mandalay Bay. It’s a beautiful space overlooking pretty much the entire Strip. I haven’t decided if I want to go or not, but I guess it’s one of the last work-duty events I’ll be expected at.
