Farewell Party

Tuesday, August 31st, 2004

So the invitations went out for my goodbye party today.

We also drafted a press release about the change in editors, but that won’t be released until the middle of the month.

Anyway, since they’ve mass emailed the invite to most of Gay Vegas, I’ve been getting a ton of emails and phone calls all day from people who didn’t know I was planning to leave yet. This is odd to me, because I must have told over a hundred people in the last few weeks and surely the gay community can gossip better than this.

Well, it’s been a good-for-the-soul morning on that regard. A lot of sincere expressions of thanks and well-wishing. You know, I’m not really shy about tooting my own horn, but it boggles my mind to realize exactly how many people care about what happens to me. All those hours of seemingly thankless volunteer time for causes and organizations, all those public appearances to speak out on diversity, all those all-nighters at the office… there were many times in the last four years when I seriously wondered if it was worth it and if anyone cared. I guess I know now. It’s a good thing to hear and gives me inspiration that will hopefully carry me on for a while.

On a different subject, I had my first LJ dream last night. I don’t remember the details, but I woke up very confused about whether a bizarre phrase in the dream had come from or Jay Leno. Forget about the one ring…

LiveJournal to rule them all,
LiveJournal to find them,
Livejournal to bring them all
and in the darkness bind them….

As commented last week, “Oh! He’s an LJ whore now!”

I also have a new “Death” icon that just screams “I’m a quirky goth girl.” Which I’m not, hence the ironic iconic fun.
