Saturday, September 18th, 2004Well, my last weekend in Vegas is off to a good start. I’m trying to find a nice mix between party mode and responsible get-ready-to-move mode. Tonight was good. I reserved my moving truck and had sex. That was suprisingly important to me because this time next week I’ll be in a room directly above my parent’s bed in an old and creaky house. (Sorry for the over-share, I just had to tell someone because it hasn’t really been happening for me a lot lately).
Anyway, tomorrow evening we have the Generic Black & White Party – the second largest annual event for the local queer community. It’s an AIDS fundraiser where everyone dresses up in – you guessed it – black and white clothing. Should be lots of fun. Before that, though, tomorrow’s task is laundry and packing of the wardrobe.
Sunday night is my official going away party. I expect there will be much crying and more hugs than you can shake a stick at (although why anyone would shake a stick at hugs is a mystery to me).
Kelly hired a new ad salesperson this week and I’m a little disappointed I won’t get to know him much better. His name is Ryan and he’s this totally cute 22-year-old guy out of L.A. who was telling me tonight about when he met Bryan Singer. Anyway, the reason I wish I could stick around and get to know him better is that he’s very, very smart. He’s a gay Republican (which boggles my mind) and more than capable of holding his own in debate against me. That’s kind of rare among my RL friends. Normally, he wouldn’t really be my “type,” but when we actually got to discussing politics, the business of our company, and perceptions of the community, he became 400% more attractive because he’s so bloody well-spoken and intelligent. His big flaw, though, is that he won’t even give Buffy or Angel a chance to impress him. I’m going to do my best to convert him to the Whedonverse before I leave, but it’s going to require all my powers of persuasion. (And for the curious, he’s not the person with whom I made the nasty tonight. I’m not naming names.)
Also, spoke with Patrick at Sundance again today. He’s having the required meeting and making a hiring decision on Tuesday, so I should know by Wednesday at the latest if I got the job or not.
