Back from the break
Monday, November 29th, 2004Wow, I used to be so muhc more obsessive about this. Well, I just had a 6-day weekend and no internet access at home (the computer got fried), and I just didn’t want to drive through the snow and cold to get to the office to write in my LJ. Plus, been trying to focus my energy on certain fannish activities.
A lot has been happening. First off, our offer on the new house was accepted! We’re all so excited that none of even care that we’ll likely spend our entire Christmas break moving and unpacking. We’ll close on the house no later than December 29, but we’re really pushing to get it done before the holiday. We’d all love to celebrate Christmas in the new place.
My van is officially not going to pass the state’s safety inspections without thousands of dollars in repairs. That means I’m buying a new car before the registration expires at the end of January. Buying a new car means I’m not going to be looking for my own apartment quite as soon as I’d hoped.
There’s some whip-cracking going on at the office with the sales staff this week. I think our publisher and I are tired of crappy salaries, long work days and little growth in sales. They’re supposed to be pushing me up to full-time pay as soon as we hit a certain level of monthly income, but we haven’t reached it yet.
I’m using my Northstar icon today because I went on an X-Men bender over the holiday weekend. I’ve been avoiding the “Ultimate X-Men” series because I wasn’t sure I’d enjoy the restart on the stories. Well, my dad had the first 3 trade paperbacks, so I picked them up out of boredom. Then I went out and bought TPBs number 4-9. Ouch, that was an expensive decision. I can justify it, though, because my X-Men books are the only things my little brothers will read for fun. I let them read the stories, then we discuss some of the symbols, themes and metaphors involved. They’re liking the Ultimate books because they can relate easier, and I don’t have to fill them in on complicated backstories.
Somehow I got talked into going shopping at 6 am on Friday (actually, I got talked into it because Mom’s car was in the shop and Dad sure as hell wasn’t going to be conned awake that early on a holiday). Between my sister, mom and I, we managed to do most of the difficult Christmas shopping – all the gifts for those family members who are really vague about what they want.
I watched Charisma Carpenter on Charmed last night and missed Cordelia. Her chemistry with Alyssa Milano, especially, was good and a little bit lesbian (neck rubs, touching, “I care about you”…)
