Cool night

Saturday, May 14th, 2005

It’s almost 3am here and I’ve just left one of the coolest gatherings I’ve had in a while. Every other Friday, area pagans gather at Salt Lake Roasting Company for “Witches Brew” – an informal discussion group. Several of my friends from church were there, but also a lot of new people. I made some great new friends tonight. We talked about everything from real-life ghost stories to how a drag queen tucks and tapes…

Anyway, I just wanted to post a journal entry to remind myself of tonight. It was good and I feel like I’m turning a corner in my Utah life – I’m starting to find a group of friends I can fit in with and hang out with. There are even a few who I could call up for no reason except to chat. I feel like I belong.

Now, back to the grindstone. I’m at my breaking point with Utah Pride. I can do everything I’ve said I would take on, but I cannot handle anymore. I actually said “no” to a few requests today.

Tomorrow, I have to finish Jasmine’s dress for her school’s Shakespeare Festival. All that’s left is attaching the sleeves (which is always the part I struggle with when making costumes – especially these kind of gathered puffy sleeves) and the trim work. Sometime tomorrow, I also have to measure off the park for Pride to determine how much fencing we need and respond to the city sanitation department about how many cans we need and how often they will need to be emptied.

Everyone tonight was talking about Synergy, the local burn based on the Burning Man festival. It’s the weekend before Pride and I really shouldn’t go (especially since the weekend before that I’ll be in Vegas), but I really want to. It sounds like so much fun.
