Batman Begins and other reasons to escape reality
Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005Spoiler Free–
I went to see Batman Begins last night to take the edge off an otherwise unpleasant day. I loved it. I even found myself able to refrain from snarling every time I saw the-future-miss-Tom-Cruise on the screen (also known as “Really, all this extra Hollywood publicity about me and my new daddy fiancee is just coincidentally timed alongside our big summer movies. I know, Tommy, let’s go on Oprah and talk about how we really value our privacy.”). Oops, I think the sneer is back.
Is it just me, or are they writing comic book and fantasy movies better these days? It’s like someone at Hollywood finally cicrulated the memo “Comic Book Fans Aren’t Stupid. Write quality characters true to the books before you worry about bringing in Jim Carrey or Ahr-nold to play the villians.”
And is it weird that I now find myself sexually attracted to one of the creepiest Batman villians ever? He was just too damn cute for that role (which I always pictured more geek and less sultry sex god).
Rob, I think you got some of your libido on me. Wait. I have plenty of my own.
Anyway, today I just want to escape into my flist all day. So many things I’d like to reply to. Unfortunately, I have our Pride De-brief/Wrap-up meeting today and I’ve got to finish my reports and photocopy all my records before our meeting tonight. Still, much love to all my friends who are being even more interesting than usual today.
