Church FriendsSo after church today, Maureen, Brie, David and I helped to celebrate Kim’s birthday by driving up to Snobird for lunch. There were a few wrinkles in our plan, though… we were too late for brunch, parking was a mess because of Oktoberfest, and we ended up eating Mexican food to the sounds of Bavarian horns. Still, it was really pretty up there – the changing colors of the trees looked great and the skies were so blue once we cleared the smog level.Snobird

It occurs to me that Kim, David, Maureen and Brie are becoming the best friends I have in Salt Lake. It kind of snuck up on me, but they’re the folks who have been there consistently and I always feel comfortable talking to them. There are other friends who I’ve gotten close to because I worked with them, but the CUUPs crowd is the most random.

The sermon at today’s service was all about gay marriage. We had a guest speaker, Rev. Dr. Dorothy May Emerson, a UU minister from Massachusetts. It was interesting to hear her talk about gay marriage from the perspective of a religious leader in a state where it is legal. She didn’t really say anything new or revolutionary (from my perspective – there are others at church who don’t follow this issue as much as I do, obviously), but she did make me want to move to Boston.

For anyone local who doesn’t know, next Saturday is Pagan Pride Day. It’s going to tons of fun, so whether you’re pagan or not, you should stop by and have fun.

I’m trying to decide if I want to catch a screening of Corpse Bride this evening or not. Probably not, I’d have to record West Wing and Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy and I wouldn’t be able to record Charmed as well. Sunday TV is suddenly too tempting to leave behind.
