Nip/Tuck
Wednesday, September 28th, 2005I should really be asleep now, but I logged back in to jot down a few thoughts on tonight’s episode of Nip/Tuck. How I love this show.
I love Matt. I love his character and I sincerely desire that his character will someday become a decent, honorable person. In the meantime, how can the writers fuck him up even more? As much as I love Matt, I cheered when the gang of trannies beat the shit out him then pissed on him.
Natural selection, racism and gender identity. Lesser shows could not tie these topics together thematically without turning it into an anvil. The truth is that no matter how much we change on the outside, we’ll still always be different. Ramirez will still be remembered for his crimes. Eva will still be genetically male. Kiki will still be an unsuitable mate. Matt will still be unfinished, not yet a man.
Only two episodes in and this season has piled up more dramatic possibility than I can handle… and I’m noticing a pattern of 3s. Christian’s triad relationship, the triple parenting problem, the third doctor, etc. Plus, we’ve got the carver still on the loose, the death of Eva’s son being investigated, and there’s still a certain outstanding auto accident from seasons past.
And the Erica/Julia pot scene… Um, Joely Richardson was really smoking something. It might not have been actual pot, but there was a smoke substance that she inhaled, held, then blew out. I think all three happened in a single continuous take. But I loved that scene. Wouldn’t everyone in the show feel better if they all smoked pot together?
