In Which Our Hero Considers Today’s Headlines
Thursday, October 27th, 2005So, this headline from the Tribune caught my eye:
Ogden balks at church’s bid for land
Old mall site: The historic church wants to expand, but the city covets the revenue from retail
What? How can this be? A Utah City Council is hesitant at selling prime real estate to the church?
Then I read the first paragraph…
OGDEN – A bid by the historic Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd to build a second chapel on a prominent corner of the proposed downtown mall is getting a mixed reaction at City Hall.
Oh… they aren’t sure about giving prime real estate to those wacky gay-Bishop ordaining Episcopal weirdoes.
For the record, other parts of the same land have been sold to the real estate arm of the LDS church who will build retail and office space on the land directly across from their temple.
“In the 1980s, the city surrounded our beautiful chapel with the mall parking structure,” parishioner Frances Hawk told the council on Tuesday. “I do not want the backside of a new retail establishment to block us once again.”
But David Harmer, Ogden’s community-development director, warned the council against chipping away at the retail space planned along Kiesel. A “talking points” paper said the city could lose $200,000 per year in lease revenue.
::Frustrated sigh::
On another note… Harriet Miers withdrew herself from consideration for the Supreme Court. I wonder which fascist neo-nazi zealot Bush will select next to guarantee unified party support from even the right-wing extremists?
Finally, does this mean Siegfried is the butch one?
I’m sorry, was that insensitive? I know that everyone feels all sympathetic for Roy these days, but as someone who was quite active in Las Vegas’s gay political scene, S&R kinda pissed me off. Not only would they flat our refuse to comment on their sexual orientation (one of the stupidest least worst kept secrets in the known universe), when they announced Darren Romeo as their protégé, he started popping up in the gay bars five nights a week. On one occasion, I tried to take his picture for Las Vegas Bugle (the gay rag) and he flipped out. Apparently, he was contractually obligated by S&R to be in the closet and pull off the illusion of convincing hundreds of midwest tourists that he likes girls.
I’m all for letting people come out in their own time and own way, but Siegfried and Roy are horrible role models and I simply don’t care about their drama as long as they are discouraging entertainers from being open and honest in their lives.
