In which Our Hero Ackowledges His Sheep-ness
Saturday, November 19th, 2005What did we do in the days before IMDB?
So I was watching my sister’s copy of Mists of Avalon last night and it was driving me absolutely batty trying to figure out where I knew Edward Atterton, who played King Arthur, from. He played Atherton Wing in the Firefly episode “Shindig.” He’s been in some other things I’ve seen, but that was the appearance that was burned into my subconscious somewhere.
I bought the movie soundtrack to Rent today. It’s not as bad as I feared. That doesn’t mean I’m thrilled. I miss the presence of certain characters in some songs, and I miss certain songs that were cut altogether…
I also visited the new Apple store at the Gateway. I stood in line for 20 minutes to look at iPods and G5s. ::sigh:: I’m a sheep. Now, if I had $3000 to buy the Powerbook I want, it would have been worth it. Judging by the line, though, you’d have thought they were giving away free iPods or something.
Interesting article in today’s Trib about a fairly well-known LDS blog that turned out to be a complete and total sham. The creators keep saying that they didn’t consider the “ethical issues” about making up characters. This is what kills me about a lot of LDS people in the business world… they LIED. They decieved people and manipulated their feelings. But they won’t admit that what they did was actually MORALLY wrong, it’s an “ethical” mistake. Take my uncles, for example, they don’t seem to lose any sleep about doing things with their business which are unethical (such as cheating the books with “business expenses” that are really luxury personal items – cars and such). If you accuse them of doing something morally wrong (according to LDS definitions, anyway) they will freak out.
Kind of related, this great concept I saw in the book I’m reading (Someplace to be Flying by Charles de Lint)… “Truth” (and by this we’re talking about absolute and unambiguous truth) isn’t the most important thing we have to offer each other. Playing fair is. Karma, fairness, following the rules that allow us to function together as a society, respecting each other as people… however you put it, the concept is an interesting one.
Tonight is the SLC LJ HP:GoF Extravagnaza.
Tomorrow is going to be busy. All day, I have maybe two hours without meetings scheduled until 8p.m. I may blow off the last few for TV viewing purposes (not to mention, you know, sanity).
Oh, and note to the ATPO folks, it’s looking unlikely that I’ll be able to confirm Tahoe this month with the unexpected recent financial/medical toll on my family. I’m kind of bummed out this, but it looks like any trip to Tahoe will have to be planned much later – which means I might have to venture out on my own for hotel/lodging and just plan to catch up when I can. If I can even swing it.
