Meeting your heroes

So…

The Guest Services Department was a bit understaffed today, and since I don’t have all that much to do I volunteered to help out. Later this afternoon I’ll be escorting Rosie O’Donnell and family into a screening of All Aboard: Rosie’s Gay Cruise. A few hours after that, I get to escort the entire Gore family (as in Vice President Al) into An Inconvinient Truth.

Wow! Um, I won’t be able to take pictures in my role this afternoon, but I’ll be meeting two people I’ve admired for a long time.

Just don’t tell anyone I voted for Nader in 2000.

SQUEE!

Update: Yup, it was cool, although my interaction was very brief. “We have reserved seating for you over here, Ms. O’Donnell” and “Could you please follow me to the green room, Mr. Vice President? Robert Redford would like to say hello.”

The Gore entourage was difficult. Because of security issues (there was at least one bona fide nutcase at the theatre) we kept having to shut down the entire ticket line into the theatre before we could move any of the Gores from one location to another.

Today did give me an insight into the daily festival operations of other departments than my own, though. It’s amazing how quickly decisions are made, how many balls get juggled at once, and the amount of sheer information many people keep in their heads. Of course, these folks have trained in their positions and I’m sure I could be just as effective with a few months to prepare for the specific duties… still, it was really impressive to watch it in action.
