One day down

Friday, March 31st, 2006

Well, the first day is done. All the kids are tucked into bed (and judging by the lack of noise, miraculously asleep after a long day). Today we explored downtown Chicago along Michigan Avenue, which isn’t terribly exciting if you aren’t looking to spend lots of money – sort of like Market Street in San [...]

We made it

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

So, we made it to the Windy City with all 68 bodies that were on the first plane out. I’m sure this is blind luck as much as anything else, since our “head chaperone” for the flight (the school principal, no less) never once bothered to check names or organize anything. In fact, the first [...]

Almost time to go

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

Well, I’m supposed to be getting up in two and a half hours to get ready for the trip to Chicago. Damn insomnia. I haven’t slept more than a few hours in several nights now, and tomorrow is going to be a long day anyway, followed by several more long days. It’s a good thing [...]

New Toy!

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

It arrived. I’m sitting at the kitchen table playing with my brand-spankin’ new laptop. So far, all I’ve been able to do is install software and update my security patches, but I’m finally online. Of course, I should be packing and/or sleeping, but I gotta play with my new toy first.

The family is growing…

Happy Birthday *-*-*ladystarlightsj”>!
Here’s a birthday gift that’s been making the rounds on the internet today. You might want to glance over your shoulder and check to see who’s standing behind you first
Terrible insomnia last night. Didn’t get to sleep until 5 a.m., which shot my 7 a.m. plans for the gym to hell. [...]

Obnoxious things you do to a school chaperone…

Monday, March 27th, 2006

Friday night, we had a meeting for all the parents and chaperones of the kids going on this school trip to Chicago this weekend. I was surprised and none-too-pleased to discover that I’m chaperoning 8 high school boys now. When I signed on to this field trip, I was going to chaperone my brother Jordan, [...]

What I was/am reading

Friday, March 24th, 2006

So after about 100 pages, I gave up on the 2005 Pulitzer Prize winner Gilead by Marilynne Robinson. I was almost halfway through the book and I just didn’t care to continue. I don’t know why, but I just didn’t care what happened to the narrator or anyone else in his family. Since the book [...]

Updates on the personal stuff

Thursday, March 23rd, 2006

Well, since I’ve been awfully political–or focused on books and movies–in my posts for the last few days, I thought I’d try to update a bit more on the personal life stuff.
I ordered my laptop yesterday. I wanted to get a Powerbook, but that felt a little more spendy than I’m comfortable with while saving [...]

The Guv’s got balls

Wednesday, March 22nd, 2006

So, late last night, before his midnight deadline, Governor Huntsman vetoed HB 148. That means that Equality Utah is calling this a 100% year for the legislative session. In other words, no anti-gay message bills got signed into law, we passed our one major piece of legislation (hate crimes – two if you count Missy [...]

Jeers to Cheers, and a last minute call to action

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

First off, happy birthday to *-*-*foulsham”>. I hope your new home is treating you well.
After my ranty post yesterday about ABC 4’s coverage of CAUSS, I was absolutely floored last night when they presented a follow-up piece that actually presented the other point of view fairly. *-*-*bendawg”> suggested that maybe someone over at channel 4 [...]
