Don’t make me go…
Thursday, March 2nd, 2006Sine today isn’t a “gym morning,” I don’t actually have to be at work until 10, but since it’s a late night meeting, I think I may steal an extra hour or two for myself before heading in. I really just want to spend the morning continuing with the job hunt.
Had my first real phone conversation with L since he moved last night. He sounds well, but it’s hard to tell over the phone. I’m really jealous, though. I’d love to be taking some time off and just enjoying a few weeks of fun in the Bay Area…
Speaking of which, my mom’s in Fremont until this weekend. The last of my Bay Area cousins is getting married this Saturday. Unlike the last one, however, I turned down the invite when I didn’t think I’d be available to attend. Now I’m really bummed out.
So… when pitching your resume, how long should you wait before following up? A week, two weeks? I’m getting a bit nervous that in 8 days and over 75 resumes submissions, I haven’t had any better response than an automated email or three. I know my resume isn’t really the problem, and I write indivudial cover letters to each company tailored to the job description. Most of the PR/Marketing jobs I’ve been looking at want 3-5 years “agency experience” and I don’t have that. I have practical experience in a variety of similar fields, but not agency experience. The only way to get that (from what I can tell) is to take a crappy internship and very low-paying entry level gigs that I couldn’t afford to live on even if I continued to live with mom and dad. It’s all very frustrating, but also exciting. I know the perfect job is out there and I’m going to find it.
