View of the ‘hood

Some people have asked for pics of my new neighborhood, so I snapped a few shots while wandering home from the gym today…

My home
The name of our little complex is “The Hidden Court” – it may be my fascination with fantasy and the books I’ve been reading lately, but I totally imagine that one day the fog will roll in and I’ll find myself surrounded by elves. If I ever write a book about SF, I’m totally keeping this name in there.

Art in my 'hood
There are A LOT of these types of murals throughout my neighborhood, especially near the busier streets. If we have Chinatown and Japantown and Little Italy and Russian Hill, my neighborhood might be justifiably called “Little Mexico” or Cuba or Puerto Rico depending on exactly where you are.

San Francisco General
I’m really near to San Francisco General, which is comforting. If I ever need to go to the hospital, I’m within walking distance.

Looking west
The view looking west toward Noe Valley.

Looking south
The view looking south toward Bernal Heights.

So, final interview with the Executive Director and some board members of the homeless services nonprofit tomorrow. They told me to plan “a couple of hours” for the interview. I feel really good about this. Even if it’s not where I ultimately want to be, it’s a great organization and will do wonders for the professional skills on my resume.

I’m meeting a guy from the LGBT Commmunity Center on Friday who runs this group for gay newcomers to San Francisco and helps them develope a social network, etc. I gather that the program’s main purpose is health education around HIV/AIDS in the big city, but I’m afraid that those lectures are really old hat to me (as though I haven’t taught those same programs myself many, many times). Anyway, it’ll be interesting to see what the group has to offer.
