Things I did this weekend
Monday, July 31st, 2006Okay, it’s late and I’m tired, so you’re getting a list with pictures…
1. Went book shopping on Saturday. Picked up several good reads at the many fun bookstores along Valencia. New Mercedes Lackey!!!! I am in love with Borderlands Books, in part because it’s a store run by a gay couple (and a hairless cat) dedicated to SF/Fantasy genres. They had the released-this-week When Darkness Falls and the guy at the counter reccomended a long list of books for future visits. Oh, the money I will be spending here.
2. Jennifer, Daniel and I visited the Really, Really Free Market at Mission Dolores Park (where people give away stuff they don’t need). It wasn’t especially great.
3. Met Nicole, who will be my ride and camp buddy at Burning Man, assuming my employment situation allows me to go now.
4. Spent time photgraphing interesting street graffiti around the Mission.

5. Went to see Raiders of the Lost Ark at Mission Dolores Park with a big group of friends. It was showing free as part of Film Night. We got drunk and made fun of how dated the movie seems now, especially in reference to Middle Eastern culture. Also, can anyone explain the snakes to me? If this tomb hadn’t been opened in 3000 years, where did they come from and what have they been eating? And… when Indiana Jones escapes the snake cavern, they basically manage to get out through a loose brick in the side of a wall… um, wouldn’t that have been a far easier way into the acheological site in the first place… and why didn’t the Nazis at least explore those half-buried ruins with exposed walls and loose bricks before dedicating so much energy to digging things up?
6. Attended the Dore Alley Fair (a.k.a. Up Your Alley) without freaking out too much. Even took my shirt off long enough to get sunburned. (I also didn’t wear underwear… it was my secret way of feeling kinky for the event that was so far out of my comfort range). So many nekkid people… but it was the guy in the pig mask with the pink curly butt-plug that almost pushed me beyond my ability to take it all in with a shrug and “to each his own” attitude.
7. Finally went to see Superman Returns. I loved it. Don’t know if I’ll give it a full review, but I definately enjoyed it a lot. Can’t wait to watch it again on DVD.
8. Finished out the weekend with drinks at Eagle Tavern with Jessica. The place was packed with very drunk guys coming from Dore Alley. I’m pretty sure I could have picked up a couple really hot guys just by being remarkably more sober than they were, but alas, I decided that it wasn’t a good idea on a work night. Damn my work ethics!
So, yeah, it’s been a busy weekend. That’s a good thing. It kept me in “the now” instead of stressing about things (or people) I can’t control or do anything about. I’m working on doing more “in the now” thinking these days. There’s been so much stress over the past few weeks related to choices that were made and opportunities that are still coming… I’m trying to avoid getting caught up in regret for the past or worry/anxiety about the future and take each moment as it comes. It’s not easy.
Oh, I spoke to Missy yesterday. I feel awful about what she’s going through, but it sounds like this may lead to an exciting new opportunity for her. If I ever run for President, she’s my first choice for VP.
