In Which Our Hero Learns Important Life Lessons and other stuff

Okay, class, repeat after me. One does not find a boyfriend by flirting with couples.

What the hell is wrong with me?

In other news, I finished The Golden Compass today, and although I was warned about this I didn’t listen. I do, in fact, want to rush down to Borderlands immediately, demand that they open shop at midnight and sell me the next book in the series.

We got another batch of pictures today from the Summit. I thought this one turned out rather nice…

2006 Out & Equal Workplace Summit

A little dark, but I should wear a suit more often. That’s Valerie from the GLBTCCU standing next to me. No idea who the dude in white is.

I liked Heroes and I still liked Studio 60, so I think Monday night television is settled for a while. I was glad they actually showed part of the “show” in Studio 60. I totally expected them to cut just as the clock hit “0″ and roll the credits, but they actually performed the skit. While it wasn’t falling-down funny, I was impressed that they didn’t take the easy way out. I think I’m going to get really irritated with the “Harriet is a devout Christian” stuff. It’s sort of like having a gay character on a show that never has a scene or motivation that doesn’t center around them being gay. I get it. She’s religious. Now give her a personality I care about (and the whole Matt/Harriet thing isn’t it). If she’s supposed to be this amazingly talented comedian, it would be nice to see her do something, you know, a bit funny. Her one and only joke in the show was part of a prayer. Come on. But I nitpick because I care.

The other crack that is eating my brain is Pandora Internet Radio. I was complaining that whatever algorithm iTunes uses to calculate reccomendations just doesn’t seem to work for me. (What, you bought Damien Rice, the musical The Color Purple, the new Scissor Sister album, and you even broke down and bought “SexyBack” … well, we can tell you’re gay, what do you think of this Paris Hilton song? Hey, have you heard of Rent?) Anyway, Daniel mentioned that I should check out Pandora because it makes reccomendations based on much more sophisticated concepts than “other people who bought this song also bought….” Yeah, I was up waaaay too late last night (flirting with a couple online and) picking out new artists and songs. My only complaint is that a simple “Like/Dislike” rating system isn’t quite clever enough. Sometimes I want to send them a note saying “no, the musical tonality, instrumentation and style were right, it was the sappy ‘Praise Jesus’ lyrics that didn’t work for me. Can we get this song in a non-denominational flavor?”

Yeah, not sure why I’m loving the colored text tonight, but it’s so pretty.
