Late night wrap

Today was long. We had our Summit de-brief in Berkley. It went well, but I always talk too much at these sorts of things and sort of monopolize the conversation without really intending to.

We went to Mezzanine for a concert with Kid Beyond and DJ Krush because it was Jennifer’s birthday. Daniel’s birthday is also this weekend, so I imagine there will be plenty of drinking involved. Anyway, I really liked the opening act, a DJ named Mophono, and I loved Kid Beyond (beetbox and human orchestra). Watching KB perform – creating complex multi-layered sounds by recording and mixing live loops of nothing but himself a microphone – well, I may not particularly care for the music but I had to admire the skill and creativity. In general, it was not the type of music I’d seek out on my own, but it was interesting and I can appreciate turntable artists and beetbox artists more. I have a bit more respect for those elements in hip-hop music.

“Frankly, I don’t think what kind of personal relationships I have in my private life is of any relevance to anyone else.” – Mark Foley, in response to a 1996 article in Advocate where it was reported that he was gay. Foley later said it was “revolting” that he was accused of being gay.

Well, Senator Foley, when you flirt with underage boys, exchange graphic IM conversations about masturbation, and make innapropriate or creept requestst hrough email… it is relevent. Especially when you have been the champion of anti-pedophilia legislation.

Isn’t hypocrisy fun?
