Tahoe is so pretty this week

…Pretty, but also slightly cold. Not winter coat cold (which is a shame, because I brought my winter coat), but definately a noticeable drop in temperature from the Bay.

It turns out the strategic planning retreat is actually a lot of fun so far. Sure, there’s a lot of hard work and making scary commitments about things a long time down the road, but we also have moments of utter silliness. Like the creative games to celebrate our accomplishments of the year. I took second place in “America’s Next Top Accomplishment” for my expressionistic approach to drawing “diversified workshop offerings and provided better and more detailed descriptions,” followed by the impromptu performace of the same goal in a “bad dramatic acting” style (I died, very Hamlet-esque). I stumbled in the final round, however, when I couldn’t confidently survive the interview round.

I made up for it, though, by winning the Hollywood Squares style game that ended our evening (Lily Tomlin for the win).

You know, much as I hate to admit it, Nevada (even the remote parts I never spent much time in) just feels a bit like home. Maybe it’s the stale cigarette smell in restaurants and bars, the constant bells and clangs of the slot machines, and the dry but clear air. Whatever, just being 2.3 miles into “home” feels kinda wonderful right now. When people make fun of Nevada, I get defensive; when people are interested in the history, I find myself sharing as much as I know; and the strangest landmarks and quirks bring back a rush of memories. I miss living in Reno and Las Vegas. Though not enough to move back, because I love my new home, too.

Anyway, early morning tomorrow (plus I gotta sneak time to download and catch up on my Thursday night shows).
