The Stage Collection
Tuesday, November 21st, 2006Hee, only an hour left until “Save the Cheerleader. Save the World.”
So, years and years ago, when I was a fresh-faced young showtune queen barely out of the closet, I found a copy of Stage 1: How I Love You at Borders in Reno. An album of men singing love songs to other men, and they were showtunes! I loved it. I also tracked down the second album, Stage 2: The Human Heart. I never did see the third one, Stage 3: True Colors, available in the store.
So, years go by and I still love these albums. Then during a community theatre project in Vegas, I lent my CDs to a friend and never got them back.
Finally, just a few weeks ago, I found out that Broadway Cares sells the entire collection. Bonus! Not only do I get to replace some favorite albums, but I get to do so through a charitable organization I respect.
Anyway, the point of this ramble is that the CDs arrived today and I love them as much as I ever did. You haven’t lived until you’ve heard “We Kiss In A Shadow” and “I Have Dreamed” from the King and I in a medley duet between two men with a whole new kind of subtext. You just can’t get gayer. Or showtunier.
(And I realize this post is mostly for Rob, but in case you’re interested, download the first album here)
