Thoughts on a Thursday (only a wee bit tipsy)

Jessica and I went to see Farmcore tonight. It was okay, but we felt that it could have been an even better movie in the hands of a more talented director. The movie is a documentary about The Farm, a popular urban abnormality by day and punk rock venue by night which played an important role in San Francisco’s music history. The movie had great potential for showcasing the seeming paradox between a socialist experiment in community contrasted with a hardcore punk music venue, or a metaphor for the history of the end of the punk rock era… but ended up being a lame showcase for the concerts that defined The Farm’s reign as one of San Francisco’s most cherished destinations in the 80s. I probably would have enjoyed the movie a lot more if I was more informed about punk music, but I sorta missed the boat on that whole era of music.

Afterward, we went to The Phone Booth to catch up. It’s been over a month since Jessica and I got a chance to hang out one on one, and it was nice.

Otherwise, I’m bogged down with 2007 budget work. After leaving the office, I set up shop in a nearby cafe and worked on the budget for another two and a half hours before meeting up with Jessica. Tomorrow I have a full day of professional development classes followed by presenting my budget thus far to our managing director. I only have one major portion of the budget to complete, but I’m waiting for some estimates from vendors before I can flush out that section.

By the way, two great articles that reference my organization, where I worked with the reporter for about three months, went online today. You can read them here and here. I think they’re really great and well-written articles about the issues I’ve been working on for the last several months, so you should check them out.

Okay, so I’ve had a drink or two and I should go to bed before I oversleep and miss my appointments tomorrow morning. Since it’s after midnight, let me be the first to remind you that today is World AIDS Day. Get tested, know your status, and support the work of prevention and finding a cure. Play safe!
