Great moments in pop culture (TV, movies and books)
Tuesday, May 1st, 2007This is Madness!
Madness? THIS IS HEROOOOOOOOEEEEEESSSSSS!
I’m sure others will point this out, but women and people of color don’t do so well in the future. Aside from Mohinder and Nikki, everyone who wasn’t a white man was dead by the end of this glimpse of 2011 (I’m assuming it’s 5 years from November 8, 2006 – the day after the elections).
And Parkman is a tool in present time (last episode notwithstanding) and he’s a tool in future time. Like the saying goes, “garbage in, garbage out.”
Finally saw Shortbus… hooray for Netflix… and, yes, I wub it as much as nearly everyone else on the planet who has seen it.
Book report…
#1 Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk. I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to read this. Creepy and apocalyptic without getting epic. Like many Palahniuk novels, it takes a fairly everyman character and show his actions spiralling outward to significantly alter all of society.
#2 The No Asshole Rule: Building a Civilized Workplace and Surviving One That Isn’t by Robert I. Sutton. Great, no-nonsense, common sense guide to some of the problems we all face from time to time. If you have a boss or coworker who is an asshole, this book is for you. How do you know if your coworker qualifies as an asshole? Do people feel bullied, demoralized, frustrated, demeaned or drained after interactions? Do the people who feel this way typically have less power or social standing than the person in question? If so, you are dealing with a workplace asshole.
We went to the beach on Saturday to take advantage of the great weather. It was a wee bit foggy, but not enough to deter the crowd. Picspam follows…
