I learned tact from my mother

Mom has discovered that email is an easier way to break bad health news than calling me.

Hi, how are things going? It’s crazy around here. Jared is being tested for a brain deformity. He is having a MRI next week to see if there is a deformity in the back of his brain. He can’t do sports, amusement parks, no trampoline, no rough housing, etc. until we know what is wrong. The therapy is working, at least he is getting out of bed and wanting to do a few things.Grandpa Rob might have cancer on his spine, they found a large mass last week and he is having a biposy on Friday. Jordan is having liver problems and I am not liking all the doctor appointments. I need a break, Grandpa Joe has been in the hospital and isn’t doing very well, he has pneumonia. Life is grand, and it just keeps me busy all the time.

Have a great day call me when you have a few minutes to talk.
Mom

For the record, I know my mother, and the “have a great day” isn’t meant with any irony whatsoever.

I suspect that this is done, in part, because I haven’t been home in a while. As much as they were supportive when I moved away from Utah, and as much as they’re being supportive as I talk about law school, I don’t think they like the idea of their 30-year-old son being busy with his own life so far away.

I guess I’d better call before it gets too late.
