My old and new computers at work
This is my workspace for the next few days. I’m not nearly as cool as this would imply.

I set my new Mac Pro today. The best part is that I was very obviously setting up my expensive new toy while representatives of another computer company were trying to sell other members of my office on a number of tools (most of which directly impact our communications efforts and I should have been included in that meeting, but I wasn’t, so this was my revenge).

I’m heading to Detroit in two weeks to attend the annual Creating Change Conference by the NGLTF. I’m excited. I’ve been hearing about this conference for the past decade of activism, but never had a chance to attend before. I’m less excited about staying in downtown Detroit, but I’ll get to add another pin to the map of places I’ve been. Anybody else going to be there?

We’re starting interviews tomorrow for the new hire in my department. It’s going to be a tough decision, there are a lot of talented people applying.

Also, I seem to have been elected to represent non-management staff in a new workplace committee being created to advise on issues like the office environment, retreat planning, and other issues. I was third choice for two positions, but it seems that we got the approved for an additional person to make things odd. I believe I was selected (despite my lackluster “why don’t you pick someone else” campaigning) to be the guy who speaks frankly about our office problems, because I seem to do that rather well (and maybe too often).
