Movie Review: Jumper
Friday, March 7th, 2008I went to see Jumper tonight. I know it’s gotten terrible reviews, but I kinda liked it. Sure, it was a mess of a script with lackluster special effects and a relatively predictable plot. But I appreciate that they took some risks, like telling a small story within a potentially vast mythos, and focusing on a sort of anti-hero (in one scene at the beginning of the movie, our teleporting hero sees news footage of a terrible flood–the newscaster saying that only a miracle will save those trapped people–so David gathers up his umbrella and… teleports to London where he hangs out on Big Ben for a bit then get’s laid by a pretty blonde).

Also, I don’t mind crushing on Hayden Christensen.
Could I have better spent $10.50 tonight? Probably. But after one of the most uncomfortable days on record at our office, a nice escapist flick killing a few brains cells was fine with me. Plus, the movie did include some dazzling locations and a few good laughs.
I see why the vast majority of critics hated it, and it won’t be making my top ten list for 2008, but will you mock me forever if I say that I liked it?
