Let’s all honor the memory of Sen. Jesse Helms by electing a Black man as president, donating to your local AIDS charity, making marriage equality a nation-wide reality, increasing government support for the arts without censorship, enacting universal (social) healthcare, and making sure everyone has access to informative sex education and birth control (including access to affordable abortions).
In a 2005 interview with the AP, Helms said, “My legacy will be up to others to describe.”
The hateful, bigoted, lunatic politics of a hateful, bigoted, lunatic of a man.

Truly one of the most enjoyable moments of my life was standing on his front stoop watching ACT-UP cover his entire home in a giant condom.
It may not have made him change his mind (hell, they even made sure he wasn’t home), but it sure made me feel better.
He really proves Lewis Black’s adage that the good die young and assholes live forever.
