First Impressions of Northside
Friday, August 8th, 2008Okay, now that I’ve had some time to go out exploring, here are some first impression snapshots of my new ‘hood, Northside.

This is where I live. Jen and Jacob pretty much have the second floor and the third floor is all mine for the time being.

This church was purchased and converted to a software company. I wanna own an old church now.

The McKie Rec Center – basically across the street from me and only $15/year for pool, gym, and cardio equipment.

Daisies mural on the side of the LGBT Community Center.

The Bronz, closest gay bar to my home. (And, yes, I saw the Serpent 1/2 block up, but I make no secret about the fact that try as I might, leather bars always make me uncomfortable. I want to be supportive, but I usually just end up feeling vanilla and out-of-place, so I’m ignoring it for now.)

My first time living near a White Castle. The staff inside seemed really angry when all I ordered was a soda.

We also host the local Obama Campaign HQ. I haven’t gone in to volunteer yet.

Old American Can Factory. I’m very tempted to break in to this building to take photos. It’s awesome.

I’m just a few short blocks from the city’s LGBT Community Center. It’s just too bad it’s only open in the evenings. If I were planning on staying more than a year, I’d feel compelled to do something about that.

Jen pointed these colorfully painted houses to me. Are these the Northside equivalent of San Francisco’s famous “painted ladies“?

BronZ is my home bar. And Bullfishes (lesbians) is half a block up.
Ur in gay central baby!!!
