Happy Communism Day (er, Labor Day)

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Kenneth in the (212) says Labor Day has been voted the most homoerotic of all holidays. I always thought that was Halloween, but I guess that’s a more generalized “be a skank” holiday anymore.

I suppose there is a lot of homoeroticism in labor propaganda – although it may be a chicken/egg thing as to which came first, the image of strong male and female workers and the sexualization of the same.

Anyway, workers of the United States (those of you who haven’t lost your jobs to foreign markets under Bush administration policies) unite!

I’m spending Labor Day preparing myself for a lifetime in white collar employment. September 1 marks the day most law schools begin accepting applications. Admissions season has begun. So I’m reading the specific requirements for the 2009 applications about personal statements and scholarships. Of course, my self-imposed deadline of having the applications in by the end of October is concerning me.

I also worried about my New York trip in 16 days. I’m starting to run short on money, and most of my law school applications cost $50-$100 each.

Anyway, it probably says something about me that whenever I think of labor, the labor movement, unions, and unfair working conditions, this is the video (embedded below) I saw in my formative years that comes leaping to mind. The thing it says about me is that I’m incredibly gay.
