I set up a new twitter for liveblogging events. Here are my thoughts from tonight’s RNC coverage.

• Watching MSNBC lose Andrea Mitchell in the balloon drop.
• The only thing “maverick” about that whole speech (not basic neocon) was the idea that a Latina daughter of a migrant worker is American
• No one better show up on MSNBC saying he “hit this out of the ballpark.” It was an awful delivery.
• Why aren’t they embarrassed by the song “Raising McCain”?
• Bleh, what a terrible delivery of those well-written final words. He was set up for a home-run and decided to bunt.
• “If you find faults with our country, make it a better one.” Like being a community organizer?
• “I’m not running for president because I think I’m blessed with such personal greatness that history has anointed me …” Just God.
• The POW story is touching, really, but the more I hear it, the more I think, “So, what does it have to do with being President?”
• I guess we’re done with the policy section of the speech. Time for more “I was a POW” reminders.
• As a foreign relations expert, is it wise to antagonize Iran and Russia in the same breath? Don’t we need Russia’s cooperation with Iran?
• “We must use all resources … to rescue our economy from the damage caused by rising oil prices” Our environment is not just a “resource”
• “We will drill new wells offshore, and we’ll drill them now.” Why don’t you wait until after hurricane season?
• McCain: “I want schools to answer to parents and students.” How about answering to the needs of international standards and the marketplace?
• The “boooos” remind me of a game show.
• “…the Latina daughter of migrant workers. We’re all God’s children and we’re all Americans.” I know some Republicans who disagree.
• McCain “I don’t work for a party.” Really? Tell us one way you’re going to break with Republican politics right now. Bueller? Bueller?
• Okay, some people think it was “ground noise” – will reserve judgment until seeing it again.
• If he just said “brown noise” (instead of the standard “white noise”) he might as well have said “ignore the nigger” IMO
• Did he just say “brown noise?”
• McCain steals Obama’s platform: “Despite our differences, much more unites us than divides us.”
• McCain speech – less than 40 breaths to the first mention of 9/11.
• Delegate diversity at RNC: 93% white, 5% Hispanic, 2% black http://tinyurl.com/5rswp9
• There’s a higher percentage of racial diversity in the McCain family than the Republican delegation (only 36 black delegates out of 2380)

• I wonder how all the people who grumble about racism in transracial adoptions are reacting to Cindy McCain’s speech.
• Cindy McCain “our party arose from a great battle for human rights, dignity, and equality for all people” except gays, muslims and liberals.

• The surge is not “working.” Any large presence of U.S. troops will stem violence, but that doesn’t mean progress is being made.
• That wasn’t a tribute to 9/11 victims, that was a tribute to warmongering.
