Thanksgiving Parade
Thursday, November 26th, 2009Like any good homosexual, I believe parades improve many things: political movements, holidays, festivals, religious rituals, sexual encounters… anyway, today I woke early enough that I couldn’t make an excuse for staying in when the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was passing by just two blocks away. After fighting the crowds at Starbucks, I managed to find a spot in Columbus Circle with a pretty sweet view looking up Central Park West and watching the parade turn at the bottom of Central Park. I was on the wrong side of Columbus Circle to see much of the marching bands and random celebrities (you had to be on the Central Park corner, not the Time Warner Center side), but since the cast of Glee wasn’t allowed to be in the parade, I’m not too upset about that. Also, it made the crowd where I was a bit more tolerable.
Anyway, I suppose I’m obligated to express my gratitude for people and freedom and stuff. But since this morning’s parade was just a few hours break in a day that is otherwise devoted to studying, consider yourself thanked for being awesome.
Pics…

This was our first glimpse of Spiderman coming down Central Park West.

Great pics! Glad you had fun!

We should totally start a parade in New York that can help us all get famerz. I’m thinking we do an April Fool’s parade feat. Rhonetta and Shelley Long.

Which is exactly why she’s the perfect grand marshal of our April Fool’s Day parade.
was that a hello kitty superhero float?! be still my heart.
i heard some marching band had worn ‘war bonnets’ of their own design in this morning’s parade. ah, racism. alive and well even on our most celebrated of american holidays.

I couldn’t see anything but glimpses of the marching bands, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

Very cool Jere. I thought they would be higher in the air. Huh. Great pics, you look suitably thankful with your Starbucks. Have a great day … oh and get studying.

I was surprised at how close they were to the ground, too, but watching the handlers try to keep them under control, it makes sense.

Happy Thanksgiving Jere! Thanks for the pics, it’s like getting to watch the parade without having to get up early.
Who is the muppet balloon? I don’t believe in muppets created after 1979.

If it hadn’t been for the little girl standing near me, I would have no idea who half of the characters are.

Thanks Jere: It reminds me that although we lived in Brooklyn for a couple of years, we never ,made the parade/ :Like so many other things in life we transferred before the next time arrived. Thanx for great pics. Cheers: Joe

Whoa! Very cool floats! I don’t think we even have a Thanksgiving parade. We already had our Santa Claus Parade, last Sunday I think? But turkey day just isn’t as big a deal in Canada as it is in the U.S.

Alexia wishes she were at the parade with you. Her favorite balloon was pokemon. She is alos wondering why we didn’t see you on TV if you were there. (I can’t seem to make her understand excatly how many people were probably there- so not everyone will be shown on TV). Maybe next year if you are in NYC we can come visit and see the parade with you.

Nice photos. It is cool that you were able to experience that. On one hand I think it might be fun to go to something like this, on the other hand I usually dislike crowds. If I lived two blocks away I would be tempted to check it out as well.

Well done. Although the Spiderman balloon looked like he was ready to take it up the ass.

And from a certain angle, it really looks like Mickey is… decongesting.
