Quick check-in

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

I have one case left to read for class this semester. Which is not to say all the studying is done, just that I’ve essentially completed the new material and now must move to review and mastery of the semester. I had my last Property class this morning, tomorrow we wrap Criminal Law, and Monday is the last day of Contracts. It’s hard to believe we’ve already reached this point. It seems like yesterday that we were trying to figure out who we wanted to sit next to all semester and what, exactly, our professors wanted from us. My first final is a week from Monday.

After reaching my lowest weight in years sometime around mid-September, I managed to put about 1/2 of this year’s weight loss back on in the course of the last 4 weeks. Luckily, this is great timing to recommit myself to daily gym time (instead of the fuzzy 2-4 times a week I slipped into).

I’ve been surprisingly emotional the last few days. Yesterday’s NY Senate debate and vote on marriage equality really got my hopes up and then really let me down.

I’m really starting to look forward to my trip home to see my family for the holiday. It’s been way too long.

  1. I am glad to hear that you are getting recommitted rather than discouraged by the weight situation. Good luck with that. I fell of the workout wagon myself. It just got away from me, and then I got a cold and spent most of a few days in bed. I don’t tend to look at scales, but I don’t feel as though my body is as well defined as it was a few weeks ago. I need to get recommitted to my fitness regimen as well.

I did not get my hopes up over the marriage equality vote. There are still too many people in office who just don’t get it, or are afraid of the reactions their more bigoted constituents will have. I am inspired to become a bit more of an activist. I will be donating some money to Garden State Equality. I have been to a number of their functions, and I am very impressed with their efforts.

Enjoy your visit with your family and have a great holiday.

I didn’t get my hopes up until yesterday when there was a lot of speculation that it was “going to be close” and then it turned out not to be close at all.

  2. Good job on your study progress! Keep it up! Whoo hoo!

The moodiness may be both seasonal and an effect of not having the kind of exercise regime your body had gotten accustomed to; either way, I hope you don’t stay mired in the blues. The funk is no fun. You’ll get the weight back off; and a little winter padding is okay. ;-)

Have a great time at home! Will you be online over the holiday?

There are lots of reasons for the moodiness, some of it seasonal, some of it personal, some of it biological. I’ll snap out of it as soon as I can crash for a few days.

Yes, I’ll be online. And it’s still several weeks away, I don’t fly home until Dec 22.

  3. The emotions may be due to all the work you are doing and the pace you have had to keep all semester.

I’m with Chris, it is great that you are recommitting to your weight loss efforts. Regardless of any setback, you’ve still done really well.

The vote was very disappointing. I was very surprised by the decision. Surprise and disappointment are not good bedfellows.

  4. Study hard, relax and recover harder. That was my philosophy in college. Did you ever get to see Hair over Thanksgiving? (It WAS Hair you talked about seeing, right?)

    HUGS…

  5. Holidays and preparing for finals – a recipe for weight gain. You’ve done so well with the loss, I’m sure you’ll be at your target weight soon.

I was sorry to hear about the vote. What a disappointment.

Hope your spirits lift soon – sending you a big hug.

  6. He respects my space and never makes me wait. And he calls exactly when he says he will. He’s close to my mother and talks business with my father. He’s charming and endearing and I’m comfortable…but I miss screaming and fighting and kissing in the rain when it’s 2AM and I’m cursing your name.

  7. Hang in there Jere. You definitely need that break with family. Good luck with the studying.
