Who Universe & Other TV Things
Monday, May 30th, 2011So, I’ve been using part of my break to finally sit down and watch these Doctor Who shows and the spinoffs that my friends have been raving about for a while now. Netflix is a trap for that sort of thing. A few weeks ago I did the entire Babylon 5 run. This is dangerous.
Anywho (see what I just did there), overall I’m glad I waited to watch these until I had time to watch them more or less all at once. I’m finished with 4 seasons of DW, all 3 seasons of Torchwood, and 2 seasons of the Sarah Jane Adventures. My favorite of the shows is Torchwood – which grabbed me emotionally after maybe 3 episodes, unlike DW which took most of the season to really make me care about the characters.
Overall, though, I can see why people have loved these shows. The humor, the action, the lefty liberal pacifist tolerance agenda. Also, unlike a few American shows I could name, the characters have both strongly defined personalities, are allowed to evolve and grow, and are written consistently from one episode to the next.
I still have another season and a half of Doctor Who to catch up with the live broadcasts, although with my summer internship starting tomorrow, I won’t have quite as much free time to marathon through the rest of them. Also, there are a few summer shows that I’ll be making time for.
I’m enjoying HBO’s Game of Thrones so far, although I haven’t read the books and I do hope things start picking up a bit in the more fantasy-esque elements of the story soon. Political intrigue isn’t as exciting to watch as monsters and magic. I’m also looking forward to the return of True Blood of course. Also, at some point, Cartoon Network is theoretically going to start airing the rest of season 1 of Young Justice (I mean, they picked up a 10 episode second season, but have only broadcast 9 of the 26 shows from the first season and delayed the new episode that was scheduled for June 3 yet again to some unspecified time, presumably this summer).
And July brings back my three favorite SyFy Channel shows: Eureka, Warehouse 13 and Haven.
Wow, it sounds like I watch a lot of television. Which is crazy because I feel like I never get to sit down and watch TV anymore, but that’s the power of DVRs and hulu and the digital age, I can watch a lot of programming in the hour or two before I fall asleep.

I prefer Torchwood as well, but watch Dr. Who. Unfortunately I tend to watch them randomly and out of order, whatever happens to come on the Space channel here. Probably that’s some kind of sacrilege which would get me a zap with the sonic screwdriver, but such is life.

That’s what I have been doing – watching randomly when it happens to be on. As a result, I just never really cared that much for it. My roommate suggested that I should sit down and watch them in order to understand the appeal. She was basically right.
you know how I feel about the Doctor Who/Torchwood stuff. What I wanna really comment on here is Young Justice!
Isn’t that a great show? I’ve only caught like two, three episdoes, out of order, but I quite enjoyed them all! I wanna watch them all, looking to buy the set when the season comes out…although who knows how long that could be.
I’m just glad to know I’m not the only one who enjoys them!
HUGS…

I downloaded each of the first 9 episode via torrent. It’s even better in order. It’s a good show. Shame Cartoon Network is once again fucking with a good show by constantly delaying and changing the schedule.
