My choices from last week:

Marry: Anita Bryant. She’s old enough that I will probably inherit her estate and I have no qualms about cheating on her, a lot.
F*ck: Carrie Prejean. But only because of the remote chance that we’ll end up in a stoned three-way with Michael Phelps.
Kill: Sarah Palin. It’s the only way I can be 100% sure she’ll never live in the White House.

Astonishing? Really?

Although the new one has catchy music, I still prefer the old hero machine, which is a little harder to use but has way more customization.

Personally, I prefer my Spiderman ski mask when I’m out to mug someone. You get more sheer terror from Ledger’s disturbing grin, but the Spiderman mask is more ironic.

Yeah, it’s kind of itchy… and it rides up in the crotch a little bit, too.

Please, please don’t let this suck. The trailer is promising, but I’ve been let down before. I care about this almost as much as I cared going in to the first X-men movie.

1. While changing to workout at the gym, you realize you’re wearing your Incredible Hulk underwear, your oversized vintage Spiderman T-Shirt, and carrying your Iron Man movie promotional water bottle. Also, your trainer has nicknamed you Tony Stark for some reason.

3. You went to see Elektra in the theatre. Twice. And you bought it (and Ghost Rider) on DVD.
4. Your MySpace profile has at least one reference to Captain America dying for MySpace.

6. When visiting Golden Gate Park, you make a joke about the dreaming celestial looking extra shiny today. Nobody else has any idea what you’re talking about.

Anywho, the final issue of the Whedon/Cassaday run on Astonishing X-Men came out today. It’s hard to believe that this story arc I’ve been reading for three and a half years, the very book that brought me back to comic books (curse you Joss Whedon!), is over. The final issue had me choking back sobs in public during my lunch break. {spoiler font – highlight to read} I’m so glad Kitty isn’t officially dead – it will be less obnoxious when they eventually bring her back. Also, the final exchange between Kitty/Emma – beautiful, just beautiful. So much goodness: Beast/Brand. Scott’s eyes failing. “Brand isn’t my given name.” “I will rule it.” And the reveal featuring a drooling Reed Richards… I fucking love this shit. {end spoiler font} I’m looking forward to some quiet time where I can start at the beginning and read the whole 25 episode story in one sitting.

In fact, I’m very much looking forward to late June, when I can (theoretically) go back to pleasure reading, watching movies instead of doing homework, and playing video games.

Also, even though all those internet quizzes tell me I’m a Carrie, I’ve still never watched a single full episode of Sex in the City. It makes it hard to get excited about the movie. I guess I’ll always be more of a Golden Girls sorta guy (I’m totally Dorothy)…

The Golden Boys

Jennifer, Jacob and I spent the day visiting Whatever and Isotope before heading down to the Metreon to watch Iron Man. As you can see, it was a day of geekery.

I quite loved Iron Man. If only all comic book movies were done this well. I can’t imagine anyone other than Robert Downey Jr. playing that role, and I would have loved more fight scenes… or longer fight scenes.

The trailers were awesome, too. Although I’m not as excited about Indiana Jones and The Beef as most everyone else. Still, Batman + Hulk + Love Guru (I admit it, seeing Justin Timberlake’s crotch on the big screen is awesome).

Anyway, I think we were trying extra hard to have fun today. Jennifer and Jacob are moving to Cincinnati (the day before my birthday). It has to do with Jennifer’s immigration status and the process of getting her green card. She’ll be working in Ohio for up to 6 months before coming back to San Francisco, but it’s going to hard having my best friend leave for most of the rest of this year. It’s not like she wants to go, she just has to if she doesn’t want to get deported or go bankrupt not working during the gap between her visa expiring and her green card being approved. Anyway, I’m not going to get weird about it, because I’ve spent the last several months talking about moving away for law school in a year or so.

She’s told me that I have to come visit Cincinnati sometime while she’s there. We’ll see, I guess. I’m wondering if I can tack it on to the end of my planned New York trip this fall. Hooray, Creation Museum here I come!

Okay, so I had a really good time. I spent most of the day in the big hall watching the parade of stars,  including The X Files panel with David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz (although there are bigger fans than me, I was still awed by this panel); John Cho from Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay; Jon Favreau, director of Iron Man; and the Starship Troopers 3: Marauder panel with Casper Van Diem (so fucking hot, even when he’s acting like a spaz), Jolene Blalock (ditto, though with less spaz) and Edward Neumeier. I ended the evening watching Justice League: The New Frontier, which is officially released (straight-to-DVD) next Tuesday (loved it, its got my recommendation).

When I wasn’t watching kick-ass clips of the Iron Man armor, stoners getting mistaken for terrorists, good-looking people trying to recruit me into the war against the bugs, or other fun stuff, I mostly watched the crowd. I also picked up a few queer-interest books (Pride High and How Loathsome) based on the interesting Prism Comics panel I watched at the start of the day. Sadly, someone stole the final (signed by the author) issue of Pride High right out of my bag… I know when it happened, but I didn’t catch the thief in the act, so I’ll probably head back tomorrow and replace it.

I was a little disappointed that I ran out of energy before the Masquerade (for the second year). I also missed the Chinese New Year Parade.
